About Green and Sustainable Finance Awards
The Asian Banker Green and Sustainable Finance Awards Programme is designed to award and certify corporations and projects that have made great achievements to address climate challenge, mitigate climate risk and achieve sustainable development, and eventually contribute more broadly to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Agreement and China’s 30/60 goal. We assess the targeted institutions’ business, products, technology and risk management capabilities along with the projects implemented to enable sustainable development, through a comprehensive evaluation process.
We believe that green finance is critical to achieve the above goals. This means more funds are needed for climate neutral, energy and resource efficient and circular projects. It is estimated that China, to achieve peak CO2 emissions by 2030 alone, will need RMB 3.1 trillion to RMB 3.6 trillion ($477 billion to $554 billion) per year for the next 10 years. The GSF Awards and Certification Programme is to foster the development of green finance around globe and better direct financial and investment flows to green with full transparency.
We have taken on an audit-based approach in the evaluation process. The audit is conducted based on survey questionnaire, interviews, published commitments, documentation, and publicly demonstrated activities according to our audit process.
The best practice in the different categories of green finance are identified; corporations who committed to build a sustainable, and climate neutral world with solid tracking record are certified with an audit report and published on our website and publications. These are to engender the pursuit of a spirit of excellence in the commitment towards sustainability, climate neutrality and managing climate change.
